Periodontal Medicine
Revolutionizing Dental Hygiene
Periodontal Medicine explores the bidirectional relationship between oral and systemic health. I see infection, inflammation and host response as the puzzle pieces that link oral and systemic health. Infection with high risk periodontal pathogens puts other parts of your body at risk as bacteria travels through the bloodstream and into the gut.
Inflammation in your mouth increases inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein and chemical messengers that circulate through your body. Host Response is how your body reacts in the process. Research is clear that periodontal disease can affect cardiovascular health, diabetes, respiratory health, pregnancy outcomes, and even cognitive function. Preventing oral inflammation and infections (or addressing them at their early stages) is key to your overall health.

The saliva or biofilm sampling is a simple rinse-and-spit process, with the sample sent to a lab for advanced microbial analysis using a technique called qPCR. The detailed report reveals the types, concentrations, and antibiotic sensitivities of up to 11 different periodontal pathogens present.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, this pathogen testing allows us to develop a highly personalized periodontal treatment plan tailored to the patient’s specific oral microbiome. It improves chances of successfully eliminating the infection and associated disease risks.
